Microsoft Exchange: Enabling Circular Logging

For LiveVault Online Backup and Recovery Service to back up Microsoft Exchange, Exchange's circular logging option must be enabled. We strongly recommend that you verify whether this option is enabled on your Exchange Server. If it is disabled, enable it at that time.

Unlike traditional backup products, the LiveVault Online Backup and Recovery Service backup technology does not rely upon the Exchange standard logging to ensure complete and accurate backups or restores. As such, LiveVault Online Backup and Recovery Service does not truncate or remove the Exchange logs. Failure to enable circular logging may result in the computer running out of disk space.

Exchange 2000/2003

For LiveVault Online Backup and Recovery Service to back up Exchange 2000/2003 Server, circular logging must be enabled for each Information Storage group. Since each individual message store within an Information Storage group shares the same set of transaction logs, each individual message store is affected by enabling circular logging for that storage group.

Circular logging is disabled by default in Exchange 2000/2003. You must manually enable circular logging.
