Temporary Files in the Root Directory

To avoid unnecessarily high data change rates and excessive use of network bandwidth, the temporary files that some applications store in the computer's root directory need to be excluded from LiveVault Online Backup and Recovery Service backup. Note that temporary files may be stored in the root directory on multiple volumes.

LiveVault Online Backup and Recovery Service Agent version 3.6 and later automatically excludes the temporary files located in the root directory on each local volume. If you are running an earlier Agent version, you must manually create the exclusions.

For example, if your computer has both C: and D: local volumes, create the exclusions:

Exclude C:\*.tmp
Exclude D:\*.tmp

Important: Do not extend the exclusions to subdirectories. That is, do not create an exclusion such as:
Exclude C:\*.tmp (plus subdirectories). For many applications that use temporary files for editing, these exclusions result in multiple, full backups of files during editing.

In the tree view on the Files to Backup tab, you will see the icon for the automatically excluded files.
