Symantec Shared Application Files
Various Symantec applications use the shared virus
definition folder \VirusDefs (usually located at C: \Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\VirusDefs).
These applications create temporary folders and files under this shared
folder.
Backing up the temporary folders and files that are created
in this shared virus definition folder can cause unnecessarily high data change rates and excessive use of network
bandwidth. To avoid these problems, the temporary folders and files need to be excluded from the LiveVault Online Backup and Recovery Service backup.
Important: Do not exclude the entire shared folder, as this
would require reinstalling the Symantec applications in the event of a
disaster recovery.
The Symantec shared folder (\Symantec Shared) is specified in the registry key:
HKLM\Software\Symantec\InstalledApps value CommonClient
For example, if the specified
directory is C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared, then check
whether the shared virus definition folder exists under that shared folder
(for example, C: \Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\VirusDefs). If
the virus definition folder exists, create the exclusion:
Exclude C: \Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\VirusDefs\*\temp\*
You must
manually create this exclusion.
