Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS)
If you are running Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2.0 on
your LiveVault Online Backup and Recovery Service Agent computer, certain directories must be excluded
from LiveVault Online Backup and Recovery Service backup.
If these directories are not excluded, your computer could hang, or
the backup configurations could restart as files are renamed in the SMS
directory. Backing up these directories can also lead to very high data
change rates, and excessive use of network bandwidth.
Note: If you are using SMS 1.2,
contact Customer Service
for assistance.
LiveVault Online Backup and Recovery Service Agent version 3.2 and later automatically checks
the registry to determine if SMS 2.0 is installed and to check for the SMS installation directory. If SMS is installed, the LiveVault Online Backup and Recovery Service automatically
creates exclusions for the following directories:
-
\SMS\inboxes
-
\SMS\logs
-
<SystemRoot>\MS\SMS
Where:
For example, if the SMS installation directory is C:\SMS,
and the SystemRoot is C:\Winnt, LiveVault Online Backup and Recovery Service creates the exclusions:
Exclude C:\SMS\inboxes\*
Exclude C:\SMS\logs\*
Exclude C:\Winnt\MS\SMS\*
In the tree view on the Files to Backup tab, you
will see the icon for the
automatically excluded directories. Parent
directories of the automatically excluded directories are marked in
MyLiveVault with one of the "partially excluded" icons, either
(if a parent directory is selected), or
(if a parent directory is not selected).
If you are running an earlier Agent version, you must manually create these exclusions.
In some installations, the following SMS directory also exists:
X:\SMSLOGON
You must determine if this directory exists. If it does, then manually create
the exclusion for that directory, for example:
Exclude C:\SMSLOGON\*
