F-Secure Anti-Virus

There are additional configuration steps that you need to perform to run F-Secure Anti-Virus software and LiveVault Online Backup and Recovery Service on the same Agent computer.

Force F-Secure filters to load before LiveVault Online Backup and Recovery Service filters

There is currently an issue with the order in which the F-Secure Anti-Virus and LiveVault Online Backup and Recovery Service filters load on an Agent computer.

In the default configuration, it is possible for the Agent computer to hang if the LiveVault Online Backup and Recovery Service filters load before the F-Secure filters.

Follow these steps to force the F-Secure filters to load before any of the LiveVault Online Backup and Recovery Service filters:

  1. Using REGEDT32.EXE, open the key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\lv-jrnl

  2. Select the DependOnService:REG_MULTI_SZ value.

  3. From the Edit menu, select Multi-String.

  4. In the Data field on the Multi-String Editor dialog box, type the name of the F-Secure Anti-Virus filter, exactly as shown below, at the top of the list:

    F-Secure Gatekeeper

  5. Click OK, then exit Registry Editor.

  6. Restart the computer.

Exclude LiveVault Online Backup and Recovery Service directories from the F-Secure scan

When configuring F-Secure Anti-Virus software, you need to exclude the following LiveVault Online Backup and Recovery Service directories from the virus scanning; otherwise, the computer could hang:

  • Journal files (default is \LiveVault\Journals\)

  • Database files directories, both protected and unprotected (default is \LiveVault\Databases\ containing both subfolders \Protected and \Unprotected)

To identify the LiveVault Online Backup and Recovery Service directories paths

To identify the full path of the directories to exclude on your computer:

  1. Using REGEDT32.EXE, open the registry key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\LiveVault Corporation\LiveVault\2.0

  2. Locate the JournalRoot value (for example, this is usually similar to E:\LiveVault\Journals).

  3. Locate the ProtectedDatasetDirectory value (for example, this is usually similar to E:\LiveVault\Databases\Protected).

  4. Locate the UnprotectedDatasetDirectory value (for example, this is usually similar to E:\LiveVault\Databases\Unprotected).
