Backing Up and Restoring Directory Junctions and Volume Mount Points

LiveVault Online Backup and Recovery Service backs up the reference information for Windows 2000/2003 directory junctions and volume mount points, for example, the directory junction path. It does not back up the data pointed to by a directory junction or the mounted volume.

To back up the data referenced by the junctions and mount points, create a backup configuration for the Agent computer on which the data is physically located on a local disk. In the backup configuration, select the referenced data for backup.

When you restore a directory junction or volume mount point, LiveVault Online Backup and Recovery Service restores the reference information that has been backed up, for example, the directory junction path.

LiveVault Online Backup and Recovery Service does not validate that a restored junction or mount point is still correct or that the data pointed to by the junction or mount point still exists and is accessible. If you redirect restored directory junctions or volume mount points, the restored junctions or mount points could point to erroneous data or be meaningless.

Refer to your Windows 2000/2003 documentation for more information about directory junctions and volume mount points.
