Browsing and Selecting Files and Directories to Back Up

Select the files to back up on the Files to Backup tab on the Computer Backup form. As you select files and directories, file selection rules are automatically generated.

Note: By default, all the files and directories are selected to be backed up on the Files and Directories backup configuration.

Alternatively, you can manually define file selection rules.

To back up all or most of the files in a directory, it is recommended that you select the directory for backup. You can then exclude individual files from within that directory, as desired. This will ensure that new files that are created within the directory will be backed up without requiring modifications to the configuration. It also minimizes the number of file selection rules; a large number of file selection rules can slow down the backup performance. Conversely, to back up only a few files in a directory, it is recommended that you select only the individual files to back up from within that directory.

To select files to back up

1. In the Files to Backup tab on the Computer Backup form, there is a directory tree to the left. Click or preceding the system, volume, and directory icons to expand or collapse the directory tree.

2. Click a system, volume, or directory icon or name to display its contents in the selection pane to the right.

3. In the selection pane, select and clear the boxes preceding volumes, directories, and files to specify the files to back up. Each box contains an icon indicating its selection state:

   Icon	Indicates
   None	Files and directories that will not be backed up.
   Some	Some files in the directories may be backed up.
   All	Files or entire directories that will be backed up.
   Excluded	Files and directories that LiveVault Online Backup and Recovery Service has automatically excluded from backup. For more information about automatic exclusions, see Automatic and Recommended Backup Exclusions.
   Some w/ exclusions	LiveVault Online Backup and Recovery Service may have automatically excluded from backup some files and subdirectories in the directories.
   None w/exclusions	LiveVault Online Backup and Recovery Service may automatically exclude from backup some files and subdirectories in the directories.

   Alternatively, click Select All to select all the files and directories on the computer for backup, or click Clear All to clear all the currently selected files and directories, so no files are selected for backup.

4. After you select the files to back up, view the rules and adjust as required.
