Computer Information: Restore tab

Purpose

Use this Restore tab on the Computer Information form to:

  • View the status of restore jobs that are running or that completed within the past week, past month or past 90 days.

  • Select a restore job to view details about its configuration and its status.

Provided you are assigned the capability User can perform network restores (and optionally and shipped media restores) you can also:

  • Request a new restore job.

  • Cancel an active restore job.

Note: To cancel a restore job that is being delivered on physical media, you must contact Customer Service.

This form shows all restore jobs including those that are being delivered over the Internet, and those being delivered on physical media.

Fields and Buttons Descriptions

Field/Button Description
Restore Jobs section
This section displays status information about the restores that have been requested within the past week to 90 days.
Restore Jobs (running or completed within n) Select the time range for which you want to see restore jobs listed on this form:
  • one week

  • 30 days

  • 90 days

The jobs that are active or that completed in the last week are shown by default.

Jobs are automatically removed from this list 90 days after completion.

(Restore ID) <Restore name> Displays the restore ID of the restore job followed by its name, for example (1-1F) Restore MyFile. The unique restore ID was assigned to the restore job by LiveVault Online Backup and Recovery Service when the restore was requested. The name was assigned by the user who requested the restore.

Click the name of a restore job to open the "<Restore name>" Details form (where "Restore name" is the name of the restore job) so you can view details about the job's configuration and status.

Status Indicates the current status of the job. For example:
  • Restore running.

    This restore job is currently active. This status may apply to both Network and Media restores.

  • Restore complete. No errors. | n errors.

    This restore job has completed. The number of errors that were encountered by the job, if any, are indicated. If errors occurred, refer to the restore log located on the computer you restored the data to. This status applies to Network restores only.

  • Restore pending.

    This restore job has not yet run. For Network and Media restores, this status is displayed while a prescan is running to determine the amount of data to be restored.

  • Processing restore request.

    This Media restore job is currently active. For example, this is displayed while data is being restored to the media.

  • Restore shipped.

    The data has been restored and written to the media, and the media has been shipped.

  • Restore pending delivery method decision.

    This restore was submitted as an Automatic restore, and the decision on which delivery method (network or media) to use is still pending.

  • Restore cancelled.

    This restore job was cancelled.

  • Restore failed.

    This restore job encountered errors and failed. For information about the errors that occurred, refer to the restore log located on the computer you restored the data to. This status may apply to both Network and Media restores.

Estimate complete in <time> This text is displayed while a Network restore job is running. It specifies how long the restore job will run until it completes. For example:

Estimate complete in 58 minutes

The estimated completion information is based on a prescan of the data to be restored, and is dynamically updated to maintain accuracy. It is displayed once the prescan information is available.

This estimate will be readjusted as necessary following disconnect/reconnect occurrences.

Progress bar This graphical progress bar indicates what percentage of the Network restore job has completed. This is based on a prescan of the data to be restored, and is dynamically updated to maintain accuracy. It is displayed once the prescan information is available.
Cancel button Click to cancel the active restore job.

You can cancel any Network restore job that is currently running.

Note: If you want to cancel a Media restore job, or an Automatic restore job whose delivery method has not been decided, you must contact Customer Service to cancel it.

New Restore section
Use this section to request a new restore.
Restore files & directories, or databases Select this option if you want to restore your files and directories, or database files.

Note: If you also wish to restore the Windows NT Registry or Windows 2000/2003 System State, you must request a separate restore job for it. Do not choose this option if performing a disaster recovery.

Restore Registry/System State Select this option to restore the Windows NT Registry or Windows 2000/2003 System State.

Note: If you also wish to restore files and directories or database files, you must request a separate restore job for them. Do not choose this option if performing a disaster recovery.

Restore my Microsoft Exchange data Select this option if you want to restore the Microsoft Exchange data that is being backed up by your Exchange backup configuration. By default all the Exchange data that is being backed up will be automatically selected for the restore. You can edit the files selected, for example, if you only want to restore a specific Exchange 2000/2003 Information Store group.

If you are restoring your entire Exchange Server computer, then you instead want to use the Restore my entire computer option.

This option is only available if you have an Exchange backup configuration defined for this computer.

Restore my entire computer Select this option if you want to restore your entire computer, for example, because of a machine failure or disaster.
Restore button Click to start defining your new restore job.
