Microsoft Exchange Backup
This topic applies to LiveVault Online Backup and Recovery Service Agent version 4.0 or
later.
If you are
running an earlier Agent version,
see Microsoft Exchange Backup (for version 3.6 or earlier).
Purpose
Use this Microsoft Exchange Backup form to:
Create a new Microsoft Exchange Server backup configuration for
this computer.
-
Edit the existing Exchange Server backup configuration that
you already configured for the computer.
-
Switch the type of Exchange backup configuration for the
computer (for example,
if you currently have a custom Exchange backup configuration, you can
switch to an automatic Exchange backup configuration).
-
Remove the existing Exchange Server backup
configuration for the computer.
Important: If you have upgraded from Agent version 3.6 or
earlier, and you have an existing Exchange backup configuration, then the
existing configuration appears as a custom Exchange backup configuration.
If you are running Exchange Server on this computer, LiveVault Online Backup and Recovery Service
automatically detects that Exchange is installed on the computer, identifies the version,
and can automatically generate and maintain special database backup configurations
to protect the full Exchange server (that is, the entire computer) or the Exchange data only.
LiveVault Online Backup and Recovery Service then determines the correct set of
Exchange files and directories to back up to ensure the application data is accurately
protected. If you specify that you want to automatically
back up the entire Exchange server, LiveVault Online Backup and Recovery Service also sets up your
Files and Directories backup configuration to back up the entire computer, including the
Windows System State/registry.
You can then set a schedule indicating when the automatic backup configurations should run.
Note: In general we recommend choosing the Automatic
entire Exchange Server backup option as it is the most efficient and
easy method to ensure your computer is fully backed up and recoverable. If
this does not fit your needs, then we recommend that you choose the
Automatic Exchange Data backup only to ensure your Exchange data is
accurately backed up.
Optionally, you can instead specify that you want to define your own custom Exchange
backup configuration.
To define this custom configuration,
you specify the Exchange files and directories to back up,
and set a schedule indicating when Exchange should be backed up.
